Margie is a member of one of Canada's best-known equestrian families. Her grandfather, Major Gordon Gayford, was a member of the Canadian Army Team. Her father, Tom Gayford, made history at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City as a member of the Gold Medal Team, marking the only Team Medal ever won by the Canada. A knowledgable coach, Tom also acted as chef d'equipe for the Canadian Show Jumping Team, and continues to train a handful of students, including Margie.
With her family history, Margie couldn't help but be attracted to the sport of show jumping and began her riding career as a young child on the family farm. She made her mark on the national scene with Inglewood, purchased as a five-year-old off the racetrack, by becoming members of the Jump Canada Talent Squad, a program that identifies potential Canadian Equestrian Team members.
Margie enjoyed incredible results during the 2004 show season with Stuntman, a Hannoverian gelding imported from Germany in 2003. Partnered together in the spring of 2004, the pair quickly formed a partnership, placing third in the $25,000 Grand Prix of Collingwood in August. Despite Stuntman’s young age, he has all the makings of a superstar.
A graduate of York University, Margie holds her degree in Economics and spent 12 years working for the Horse Publications Group as the Manager of Mail Order Sales. She now devotes her efforts to the horse industry full-time, working for both her family’s Gayfords Farm as well as for Harry and Shawn Littler’s Wingberry Farm in King City, ON.
