A native of the Netherlands, Sebastien Kapel began riding at the age of five on a friend's Shetland pony. It wasn't long before he enrolled in a local riding school, then his mother relented and purchased a horse that she shared with Sebastian and his older brother, Kasper. Showing great promise, Sebastien soon had a pony all for himself, a New Forest that carried him all the way to the selection trials for the European Pony Championships.

At the age of 12, Sebastien got his first horse, Hadassa. With the talented chestnut mare, Sebastien participated in the selection trials for the European Junior Championships and earned the Reserve Championship title in the 1.35 division of the Dutch National Championships. After finishing school at the age of 16, Sebastien decided he wanted nothing more than to pursue a career with horses and went on to work with several top horsemen, including two years with Mario Piasecki of Argentina, and Lionel Collard-Bovie, another Argentinean trainer based in Belgium. After working for one year for Jan Weijers, Sebastien began his own business of showing and selling young horses. That led to a chance meeting with Phil Henning of Mill Creek Stables, one of Canada's largest producers of show jumping horses. Henning made a job offer and the rest, as they say, is history.

Since coming to work at Mill Creek Stables in October of 2004, Sebastien has concentrated on bringing the young, quality horses up through the levels. Often showing numerous entries in the Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series, Sebastien is also developing the promising grand prix stallion, Kaiser de la Cour. The pair began the 2006 season by successfully competing in the 1.45m and 1.50m division of the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL.

When not in the barn, Sebastien enjoys working with computers. He is engaged to be married to fellow competitor, Tonya Henning
