Born in Toronto, Canada, Wesley Newlands got her start riding at a stable near her family’s summer cottage. As a junior, she trained under Wayne McClellan before making her way south of the border. After pursuing an illustrious hunter career that included championship titles at such prestigious horse shows as the Winter Equestrian Festival, the Devon Horse Show, and the Washington International Horse Show where she claimed the 2012 Grand Amateur-Owner Championship riding Pure Abundance, Wesley now concentrates fully on her international show jumping career.

Previously training under two-time U.S. Olympic gold medalist Beezie Madden and her husband, John, Wesley had the opportunity to compete at top international show jumping tournaments both in North America and Europe. In 2014, she won the $15,000 High Amateur-Owner Classic against stiff competition at the CSI4*-W Winter Equestrian Festival Week IX in Wellington, FL, riding Lapacco.

Moving up to the grand prix divisions, Wesley has experienced great success with Wieminka B, Evita van de Veldbalie, a mare that represented Italy at the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games under Lorenzo de Luca, and Geisha van Orshof, also previously ridden by de Luca.

Having spent almost two years training with 2014 World Cup champion Daniel Duesser of Germany, Wesley is currently coached by fellow Canadian, 2008 Olympic champion Eric Lamaze.

Wesley studied fashion marketing at The Art Institute of Toronto and while her athletic pursuits have prevented her from pursuing a full-time position in the fashion industry, she enjoys being a personal shopper for some of her closest friends. Wesley is the oldest of four children. Her brother, Spencer, is a chef while Harrison and Jordon are both attending university.
