Rodrigo Pessoa Wins the Grand Prix, and Ludo Philippaerts Wins the Tour! Global Champions Tour Final, sponsored by CN and CN WorldWide
Two of the best riders in the world will have their names immortalized with the inaugural Global Champions Tour, sponsored by CN and CN WorldWide. Olympic Champion Rodrigo Pessoa of Brazil won the final event in the Tour, the €150,000 VDL Groep Grand Prix at CSI4* Lanaken (BEL) while another Olympian, Ludo Philippaerts of Belgium, rode away with €250,000 in bonus money after topping the overall Global Champions Tour rankings.

Who will win the big money? Global Champions Tour Final, sponsored by CN and CN WorldWide
The biggest winner of the Global Champions Tour 2006 is confirmed: Ludo Philippaerts, who collected 111,500 euros in total prize money with his spectacular victories in Monte-Carlo (MON) and Estoril (POR), cannot be caught when the final leg of the Tour is held on September 24 in Lanaken. Accordingly, the Belgian will earn a bonus of 250,000 euros. "I am getting so much response to this victory by lots of people. Our papers have been full of the news," says Philippaerts. "And of course it’s always great to win such an amount of money!"

Leopold van Asten has his Sponsor Dancing
The arena of Stal Tops morphed into a madhouse when VDL Groep team rider Leopold van Asten won Sunday’s VDL Groep Grand Prix at CSI5* Valkenswaard. Acting as the fifth leg of the Global Champions Tour, sponsored by CN and CN WorldWide, the Grand Prix saw a total of 50 riders attempt the 1.60m track set by course designer Christa Jung (GER). Of the 18 riders who returned for the second round, 10 had been clear in the first round. Half of them again managed to be clear to advance to the all-deciding jump-off.

Valkenswaard prepares for fifth leg of Global Champions Tour
The completion of the CSI2* Horse Festival Valkenswaard was a good lead-in to the CSI5* that will take place from August 17-20 at the home show of the Global Champions Tour initiator, Jan Tops. The show will mark the fifth of the six legs that comprise the Global Champions Tour, sponsored by CN and CN WorldWide. It is the final opportunity for riders to increase their GCT ranking before the final of the first edition of the GCT is held on September 25 in Lanaken (BEL).

Philippaerts Delighted to Win in Estoril
In the first big class of CSI5* Estoril, worth 40,000 Euros, the leader of the Global Champions Tour ranking, Ludo Philippaerts, was successful once again. In the 1.50m jump-off round, the Belgian crossed the finish line riding Parco in 39.72 seconds. He took tremendous joy in the fact that he finished in front of his fellow countryman Dirk Demeersman, who’s time was 40.54 seconds. “He beat me last week in the Grand Prix at a Belgian international show," explained Philippaerts of the rivalry. "I was first to go and we were really quick, and then he came at the end and beat me. This morning, I told him, if you go clear I am going to beat you today!” And that’s exactly what he did. In the end, it was third place for Demeersman and Clinton as Jessica Kürten (IRL) and Castle Forbes Maike became the runner-ups in a time of 40.48 seconds.

Tops Stables is Tops in Monaco
The second day of the Jumping International de Monte-Carlo marked great success for Jan Tops, the man behind the Global Champions Tour (GCT). Australian competitor Edwina Alexander, who rides for Tops Stables, won Friday's featured event, the Prix Mediterranean Netwerk s.a.m., riding Isovlas Socrates. In addition, Daniel Deusser (GER), who also competed for the Tops Stables, finished as the runner-up with Aktion Pur. Olympic Champion Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA) took third place with Oasis.

In the 1.25m Invitational Class, Anna McWane was by far the fastest with Rusi. In the 1.35m Invitational Class, Alexa Weeks and Riane were the winning team while McWane placed third, this time riding Vincent.

Freight carrier CN WorldWide, premier sponsor of the Global Champions Tour (GCT), will present a charity gala on Thursday, June 22, for the benefit of JustWorld International (JWI), the official charity of the Global Champions Tour. The gala takes place during the CSI**** Jumping International de Monte Carlo, staged in the famous harbour of Monaco from June 22 to 24. A minimum donation of 75,000 euro will be presented to JWI, a not-for-profit organization working in impoverished countries for the benefit of underprivileged children.
