Tom MacGuiness of Horseware Ireland distributes treated mosquito nets on a recent JustWorld International project site visit to Cambodia.

June 25, 2007 – Phnom Penh, Cambodia – Horseware Ireland and JustWorld International partnered to distribute 10,000 treated mosquito nets on a recent visit to JustWorld-supported project sites in Cambodia. JustWorld International is a not-for-profit, humanitarian organization founded to work as a catalyst for positive change in the developing world by helping underprivileged children.

Since 2006, Horseware Ireland, a leading manufacturer of horse blankets, has donated a portion of the proceeds from each sale of its Rambo Protector Fly Rug and its Amigo Bug Rug towards the mosquito net project. In April, Horseware Ireland founder Tom MacGuiness with his wife, Carol, and Purchasing Director Ciaran Herr with his wife, Bernie, joined JustWorld representatives in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to distribute the treated mosquito nets.

"Horseware created this project because we felt that people who bought fly nets for their horses would be happy to know that a portion of the proceeds were going to help people who needed protection from mosquitoes," explained MacGuiness. "This year, we were able to purchase 10,000 fully treated mosquito nets and hope to double that number in 2008. We are especially pleased to be involved with JustWorld International as we feel that they select well-respected local partners that ensure that the money is reaching those in need."

Working through JustWorld International's grassroots partner, the People Improvement Organization, the nets were given to the people of Stung Mean Chey and Borey Keila, and will continue to be distributed in the Cambodian countryside. In many cases, mosquito nets are the only protection that impoverished Cambodian people have against the life-threatening diseases carried by mosquitoes including malaria, dengue fever, and Japanese encephalitis.

On the same visit to Cambodia, JustWorld International held a dedication ceremony to commemorate its purchase of the school in Stung Mean Chey, a impoverished community in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, that gives more than 200 students access to education, culture, clean water for drinking and bathing, and basic nutrition.
