June 5, 2006 – Wellington, Florida – It is with great sadness that JustWorld International, a not-for-profit organization working in impoverished countries for the benefit of underprivileged children, recognizes the passing of Howard A. 'Micky' Newman on April 12, 2006, at his home in Wellington, Florida.

Mr. Newman’s support went beyond that of a father backing the organization founded by his daughter, Jessica. He truly believed in JustWorld International’s mission and enthusiastically supported its efforts from the very beginning. His esteemed leadership and experience in for-profit enterprises, coupled with his renowned philanthropic spirit and commitment, allowed him to help JustWorld International build a strong foundation, ensuring its rapid and stable growth. In 2005 - only its third full year in operation - JustWorld International raised $497,149 in contributions and was able to dedicate 74.3% to directly fund program sites in such impoverished nations as Cambodia, Kenya and Honduras.

Jessica Newman, a former grand prix competitor, gave up her riding career in 2002 in order to focus her efforts solely on JustWorld International. Inspired by her father's leadership and support of numerous charity and community organizations, Jessica follows in his footsteps by selflessly giving her time and never taking any salary or renumeration in an effort to make the world a better place, one step at a time.

"As successful as my father was in the world of business, he always took the time to support the community and charity initiatives, and when I founded JustWorld International, he graciously shared his consul to ensure its success," said Jessica Newman, Executive Director of JustWorld International, of the important role that her father played. "Education was one of the key areas that benefited from his philanthropy, and as many of our JustWorld programs are based on providing underprivileged children with access to learning, he was especially proud of the work we are doing. I will always cherish the encouragement and support he gave to JustWorld International."

Thanks to Mr. Newman’s generosity of time, spirit, wisdom, and financial support – all of which played an important role in establishing JustWorld International as a successful, not-for-profit charitable organization - JustWorld International will continue to grow and adapt to the needs of the children in the developing world who benefit from its projects. JustWorld International is also thankful to Mrs. Maria Newman who has played an instrumental role from the beginning, especially through her direct work at the project sites, and who will carry on her late husband’s dedication to supporting JustWorld’s success.

The activities of JustWorld International will continue to be guided by the members of the JustWorld International Advisory Board including Pierre Durand, Francois Ferland, Herve Godignon, Karen Golding, HRH Princess Haya of Jordan, Serge Houtmann, Earnest Kalman, Mildred Robbins Leet, Eugene R. Mische, Jean Morel, Raymond C. Offenheiser, Leopoldo Palacios, Nelson Pessoa, Rhonda Rioux, Mary Ann Simonds, Michael Speiser, and Ray Texel.

JustWorld International relies on the generosity of equestrian sport and its participants to support its projects in developing nations, and its long list of Rider Ambassadors includes such show jumping stars as Markus Fuchs, Ludo Philippaerts, Eric Navet, and Peter Leone.

Founded in 2002, JustWorld International raises awareness and funds in the equestrian community to support humanitarian projects that benefit impoverished communities and children in the developing world. Cooperating with local partners, JustWorld International implements sustainable, culturally sensitive education, health and vocational projects. JustWorld International trains and empowers international and local university student volunteers to create and realize these projects, providing them with hands-on experience in promoting social justice. With project sites located in Cambodia, Honduras, Kenya and Senegal, students are working for change in a wide variety of environments on behalf of JustWorld International.
