KUBOTA Capital Classic Show Jumping Tournament Returns to Ottawa

March 23, 2006 – Ottawa, Ontario – The KUBOTA Capital Classic Show Jumping Tournament returns to the Nations Capital from July 12-16, 2006, at the Nepean National Equestrian Park in Ottawa, ON.

The five-day tournament, a member event of the Kubota Cup Canadian Show Jumping Series and A rated by the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF), will feature show jumpings biggest names competing for more than $150,000 in prize money. Traditionally, the 700 riders that contest the Capital Classic Show Jumping Tournament represent countries from all over the world, and 2006 will be no exception with the United States, France, and Venezuela just some of the nations joining Canada's best.

Each year, riders welcome the opportunity to compete on the spectacular grass Grand Prix field, considered one of the best in Canada, where Olympic Gold Medallist Conrad Homfeld of the United States, will act as course designer.

This years featured event, the $60,000 KUBOTA CUP Big Ben Memorial Grand Prix, will be held on Sunday, July 16, while Saturdays $35,000 Jumping Derby is always a crowd favourite, making use of the natural obstacles including the bank, open water and famous devils dyke. Frankie Chesler is the defending champion in the Grand Prix while hometown hero, eight-time Olympian Ian Millar, shared an unprecedented tie for the win in last year's Jumping Derby with John Kersley.

Other popular classes include Friday evenings $20,000 Open Welcome Stake and the Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series, an event that plays a vital role in identifying and developing future champions as Four, Five and Six-Year-Old horses compete for accolades in their age group.

For the hunter competitors, where style is just as important as leaving the rails up, the Capital Classic will feature the $5,000 Classic Hunter Challenge as well as the $2,000 Classic Hunter Pony Challenge.

For the numerous American competitors that make the 'Kubota' Capital Classic Show Jumping Tournament a part of their summer schedule, the event is A rated by the United States Equestrian Federation and part of its computer rankings, as well as being a member event of the Marshall & Sterling League.

The KUBOTA Capital Classic Show Jumping Tournament is honoured to once again benefit The Childrens Wish Foundation of Canada. Proceeds will be donated to this very special organization that grants wishes to children with high-risk life-threatening illnesses.

Located in Ottawas west-end at the Nepean National Equestrian Park, at the Moodie Drive exit off of the 417 Highway, the 'Kubota' Capital Classic Show Jumping Tournament attracts more than 10,000 spectators annually.
