February 21, 2005 – Wellington, Florida – For the second week in a row, a JustWorld Rider Representative finished runner-up in the Sunday Grand Prix in Wellington, Florida.

Kevin Babington of Ireland placed second in the $60,000 Idle Dice Classic Grand Prix held Sunday, February 20, during the CSI*** Lincoln Florida Classic in Wellington, FL, exactly one week after young Cayce Harrison, 20, had her best result to date finishing second in the $50,000 Kilkenny Internationale Cup Grand Prix.

Cheered on by a crowd of over 10,000 supporters in the World Cup Qualifying event, Babington was one of 44 riders to challenge the course set by Guilherme Nogueira Jorge of Brazil. Babington posted a clear round with his Athens Olympic partner, the 14-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding Carling King, to advance to the jump-off along with 11 other riders, including fellow JustWorld Rider Representatives Candice King of the United States and Canada’s Eric Lamaze. In the jump-off, Babington was the first rider to post a clear round, but Anne Kursinski, who stopped the timers at 43.32 seconds, managed to better his time of 43.88 seconds.

“I was halfway through the group in the jump-off and there was nobody clear when I went in,” explained Babington, 36, who enjoyed a top five placing at the 2004 Olympic Games. “The jump-off really didn’t suit my horse that well. He’s a little difficult off of the right hand turns, and there was a right turn to the second jump, a right turn back to the double and then a right turn back to the wall so I knew it wasn’t a class I could go all out in. I had to give him a little time on those right turns, so I was very pleased with the way it worked out. I knew when I came out of the ring that somebody was definitely going to beat me, but I was confident of a top three finish.”

For his second place performance, Babington was rewarded with $13,200 in prize money, a portion of which he donates to JustWorld International with the support of Carling King’s owner, Saly Glassman and Kindle Hill Farm. JustWorld International is a not-for-profit, humanitarian organization founded to prepare and empower students to become visionary leaders and work for social justice by assisting orphans and underprivileged children.
